Needlepoints of Light, Literary Vaudeville and Walking Home, Walking Away
Firstly, I will be MC for QPF‘s opening night spectacular, Needlepoints of Light, at the Judith Wright Centre on Friday August 29 from 7:30pm. The night features local prize-winning poet Sarah Holland-Batt, 2014 Arts Queensland Poet in Residence Warsan Shire, Singaporean poet Cyril Wong, and music from two greats: The Bell Divers and McKisko. Tickets can be found here. If you get there early, you can also hear the announcement of the poetry award winners and the official opening of the festival. The festival program has plenty of sessions to invigorate the mind, including my collaboration with Nathan Shepherdson, UN/SPOOL, so get to as many as you can.
Next up, I will be MC for BWF‘s Literary Vaudeville Show at the Brisbane Powerhouse on Friday 5th September from 8pm. This epic lineup features McSweeney’s beloved Dave Eggers, Warsan Shire, Willy Vlautin (who is also in Richmond Fontaine), Hinemoana Baker, Simon Armitage, Maxine Beneba Clarke, Samuel Wagan Watson and a pop-up McSweeney’s bookstore. Tickets can be found here. Check out the artists’ pages for other events they will feature in at the festival.
Finally, I will be in conversation with Simon Armitage in BWF’s Walking Home, Walking Away session Saturday 6th September from 1-2pm at the State Library’s Queensland Terrace. We will be talking particularly about his walking troubadour journeys and being in the biz for 25 years. Tickets are here.
I’m really looking forward to being around so many inspirational artists.
