UN/SPOOL Companion piece launch at Heiser Gallery
At the Queensland Poetry Festival this year, Nathan Shepherdson and I performed UN/SPOOL, a poetic response to Maya Deren’s 1943 film Meshes of the Afternoon.
As part of the creative process, we created a companion piece: a dos-a-dos bound, double-titled book, hand stitched with laser cut covers. A limited run of 52 copies have been made available. One title consists of the performance pieces from UN/SPOOL and the other is called A gram of ideas on art, form and film and consists of found poetry from Deren’s essay ‘An Anagram of ideas on Art, Form and Film’. We will launch the companion piece at Heiser Gallery on Saturday afternoon, 8th November, where we will once again perform UN/SPOOL, this time in the intimate gallery space and alongside the current exhibition, House of Breath, by Arryn Snowball. Copies of the book can be purchased for the special price of $40 at the launch. Date: Saturday, 8th November at 2:30 – 4pm: Entry: Free Venue: Heiser Gallery, 90 Arthur Street, Fortitude Valley, Brisbane Facebook event is here.
